My Background & Approach
I’m Kate Moriarty, a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist based in Cork. I am a Pre-Accredited Member of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP), and I work with adults using an integrative approach. I offer online sessions, as well as limited in-person appointments in Douglas, Cork.
Much of my professional experience has involved supporting people as they navigate challenges such as anxiety, grief, relationship difficulties, identity questions, trauma, and the ongoing pressures of everyday life. Often, people come with something specific they would like to work through, or with a more general sense that something isn’t quite sitting right.
Alongside my clinical work, I spent a number of years teaching adult education courses in psychology and practical coping strategies. This involved supporting people to better understand emotional patterns and to develop tools that could support them in their day-to-day lives.
I hold a first-class honours degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy from Munster Technological University. Prior to this, I completed both undergraduate and master’s degrees in Applied Psychology at University College Cork, with a focus on positive psychology and coaching psychology.
Alongside my professional training, my own experience of therapy has also shaped how I understand this work. It has deepened my appreciation for the importance of approaching therapy with openness, curiosity, and care.
In my practice, I draw from a range of therapeutic perspectives, tailoring the approach to what feels most helpful for each person. This might involve gently exploring links between past experiences and present patterns, or focusing on practical ways of navigating current challenges.
The work is collaborative and moves at your pace, with space to think carefully about what is happening in your life, and to begin making sense of it in a way that feels manageable.
If you are finding certain aspects of life difficult, or feel that talking things through could help, you are very welcome to get in touch.
