A few things you might be wondering about
What happens in the first session?
The first session is really just a chance for us to get a feel for one another. We’ll talk a little about what’s brought you to therapy, and what you might be hoping for, even if that feels a bit unclear. There’s no pressure to go into anything you’re not ready for. You can take things at your own pace.
Do I need to know what I want to work on?
Not at all. Some people come with something quite specific, and others arrive with more of a general sense that something just isn’t sitting right. Both are completely okay. Part of the process can be figuring that out together.
How often do sessions take place?
Sessions are usually weekly or fortnightly, at a regular time where possible. That consistency can help create a steady space where the work can build over time. We can also talk through what feels manageable for you.
How long will we work together?
This really depends on the person. Some people come for a shorter period to work through something specific, while others stay for longer-term work. There’s no fixed timeline, we can check in on it together as we go.
Do you offer online or in-person sessions?
I offer both online sessions and a small number of in-person appointments in Douglas, Cork. Online sessions can be accessed from anywhere, so we can find what suits you best.
What are your fees?
Sessions are €60. If you have any questions around this, you’re very welcome to get in touch.
What is your cancellation policy?
I just ask for at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. The full session fee applies to late cancellations or missed appointments.
Is everything confidential?
Yes. What you share in sessions is treated as confidential. At the beginning, I’ll talk you through the small number of situations where confidentiality might need to be broken, for example, if there are concerns about your safety or someone else’s, in line with professional guidelines.
What if I’m not sure you’re the right therapist for me?
That’s really important. The first session is a chance for you to get a sense of whether it feels like a good fit for you. There’s no obligation to continue. And if you do decide it’s not the right fit, I’d just ask that you let me know.
Can I get in touch before booking a session?
Yes, of course. You’re very welcome to reach out with any questions, or even just to get a feel for things.
What if I’m in immediate distress or feel at risk?
If you feel at immediate risk or unsafe, it’s really important to reach out for support straight away. You can contact your GP, attend your nearest A&E, or call Samaritans on 116 123. You don’t have to manage that on your own.
